act · required Short name, official abbreviation, ELI, CELEX or id of a search result
query · required Word, phrase or heading; up to 200 characters
language Desired held text language; defaults to German, then English
limit 1–25 results per page; default 10
offset Starting position; default 0; pass next_offset to continue

Example: search within the BGB

{
  "act": "BGB",
  "query": "Bienenschwarm",
  "language": "de",
  "limit": 10,
  "offset": 0
}

Results and paging

Results include a marker, heading, wording excerpt and link. Pass act and a result’s marker to get_provision for the full wording. total counts all matches; while next_offset is present, request the next page using that offset.

Literal search and continuous texts

Matching is literal, without synonyms or automatic inflection. For example, “Zuständigkeit” does not automatically match “zuständig”. Use short, distinctive terms and vary the wording if results are empty.

Some acts, especially consolidated EU versions, are held as continuous text. When act.structured_provisions is false, results contain an article heading and passage instead of an addressable marker. Use the returned link or get_document; the heading is not a get_provision argument.
